As I drove into the park I saw an American Bald Eagle flying West toward the Lake Pueblo Dam from the Rock Canyon area where I normally walk. Environment:Start Time: 12:25 PM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, no breeze Today’s featured birds are Red-Tailed Hawks. I saw very few other birds on my normal tour. I did have a chance at a Great Blue Heron who was perched in a tree but when I veered off the trail to get a better angle s/he took off with a loud squawk that I can’t help but feel was directed right at me. I was surprised to find a lot of human activity at Lake Pueblo State Park this morning. Perhaps I should start taking pictures of dog walkers and fishermen since the birds and critters are really getting scarce. I Finally made it out to Lake Pueblo State Park in the mid-afternoon when the conditions were much improved. This time of year the Sun angle in the afternoon is still low enough to allow for decent photo opportunities. Once again, the bird population did not take advantage of this useful light. Environment:Start Time: 10:40 AM Temperature: 41 degrees Sky: Sunny, high thin clouds, intermittent breeze Another cold morning delayed my start today. Though it finally did break into the forties the air was quite crisp and when a breeze hit you, even in the Sun, you shuttered. Even so I took a long walk today since I skipped yesterday. I did not come home with much to show for my efforts, though. The only birds that were in capture range were a couple of American Coots. Don’t know if it was this “heat” but there was not a lot happening along the Arkansas River today. I did see a Red-Tailed Hawk circling high in the sky.
