Environment:Start Time: 6:45 AM Temperature: 56 degrees Sky: Bright sunshine. The Kestrel family (meaner but not as musical as the Partridge Family) were still on station this morning. The first picture below is the three young ones who mostly seem to stay perched and occasionally flap their wings. An adult would zoom in every now and then with food. Then once one of the juveniles claimed the delivery the adult would fly off for more – second picture below. The picture that should be seen between these pictures is today’s featured image, above. The adult was just arriving when it…

Environment:Start Time: 9:20 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Today’s late start resulted from the initial lack of decent light this morning. Things finally took a turn for the better (light-wise) so I did make a go of it. Once again there was not an overwhelming amount of avian activity. Today’s featured image is one of two bird shots that I got – an Orchard Oriole. After that it was bugs or flowers. Below are a couple of Bugs AND Flower shots that I am pretty happy with. The bottom of this post has three blooming plants that…

Environment:Start Time: 7:00 AM Temperature: 69 degrees Sky: Brilliant Sunshine with a few clouds. Yet another beautiful walking day. Yet another photographically frustrating day. Still it was a little better than yesterday. The House Wren posted at the bottom was kind enough to stop for a split second so I could justify bringing my camera out to Lake Pueblo State Park. And for the featured image up top I have a Common Merganser drake cruising in the sunshine on the Arkansas River. Usually its (I assume) mate is also present but today was nowhere to be seen. Plenty of Osprey…

Environment:Start Time: 6:35 AM Temperature: 62 degrees Sky: Brilliant Sunshine. I went. I saw. I came home. Today was one of those rare outings where I had a great walk but took no photographs. The only activity I saw was a great distance away. So for a featured image I am posting a shot that I took yesterday of a male Belted Kingfisher. Shortly after taking this shot he made a dive into the Arkansas River and then flew off with whatever he caught. I did see Betty and Barney, the Barn Swallow couple, back at the kiosk by the…

Environment:Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: Cloudy to start – Sunny at the end. Today’s walk started out cloudy but cool and ended sunny and a little too warm. The temperature raised close to ten degrees over the course of the outing. Not a lot was going on. Today’s featured image is a Common Merganser couple who have been haunting a shallow spot on the Arkansas River for the last week. Otherwise the river is still used by only the brave at heart. One Osprey teased me by hovering over the river but it never made a strike….
