Environment:Start Time: 6:30 AM Temperature: 67 degrees Sky: Clouds and Sunshine. Lake Pueblo State Park was not so much muggy, as it was on my last outing, as it was outright soggy this morning. Last night’s rain fell in Biblical quantities turning some picnic areas into swamps and the unpaved trails into ponds. The Arkansas River water is back to runoff levels and I only saw a few ducks out on the water. Today’s featured image is a lone juvenile Wood Duck drake who is obviously one of the brave ones. The mini-gallery at the bottom of this post are…

Environment:Start Time: 6:15 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered Sunshine. Really muggy this morning making almost perfect conditions a bit trying. Nevertheless, I did my whole two miles and got home with something to show for it. I spotted two of the Cooper’s Hawk siblings playing Tag in the tree tops and eventually managed to catch them in a quiet moment. Today’s featured image is a flight of Canada Geese who were cruising up the Arkansas at about eye level. They were having an intense discussion about something. Also posted is one of this year’s Mule Deer fawns –…

Environment:Start Time: 6:00 AM Temperature: 61 degrees Sky: Sunny. Having managed to get out to Lake Pueblo State Park with the rising Sun I am really starting to wonder where all the Early Birds are. Is there a worm shortage? Once again, today’s walk ended up with mostly smaller birds burned onto my memory card and even they made it tough. I did see a couple of the Cooper’s Hawk kiddos but they are expanding their range of activity and improving their ability to not be seen. So the featured image for today is a Lesser Goldfinch that I caught…

Environment:Start Time: 6:05 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunny. More great walking conditions. Less birding opportunities. Today’s featured image is, I guess, a Deering opportunity with me finally getting a clear shot of a Mule Deer doe and her twins out shopping the prairie. The Cooper’s Hawk Kids were spending the morning chasing each other from tree to tree (their flight skills are quite good now) allowing me only one unobstructed shot of a stationary bird. To wrap it all up a Northern Flicker landed in some very flattering light and began posing for me. Sightings:Birds: Mallards, Osprey, Starlings, Western…

Environment:Start Time: 6:05 AM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunny. Even with a little cooler climate things were pretty quiet out on the trail this morning. Pictured below is another shot of Canada Geese decorating the Arkansas River. It’s not that I like photographing geese so much as they are practically the only birds on the river. One Osprey made a strike way upriver from my position but fortunately it wanted to eat somewhere else and flew downriver right over me with its prize – today’s featured image. The bottom mini-gallery is a couple of subjects who made it tough to…

Environment:Start Time: 6:20 AM Temperature: 68 degrees Sky: Sunny with a welcome breeze. The stars of this morning’s walk were the juvenile Cooper’s Hawks that I have been stalking for the past couple of months. I saw three of the youngsters and am posting pictures of two of them. The featured image is of one of them working on devouring what looks like a smaller bird. I don’t know if this catch was his or if an adult had provided it but he knew what to do with it. The same bird is pictured below getting settled in for a…

Environment:Start Time: 6:15 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Sunshine with few clouds. The Owl Tree bore no feathery fruit this morning but I still managed to come home with something on my memory card. Today’s feature d image, which is the best shot of the day, is a Mule Deer doe posing perfectly in the low morning sunshine. I caught her in a peaceful moment before she saw me and lost her train of thought. Also pictured here enjoying the morning sunshine are an Orb spider dining Al Fresco and an American Goldfinch. I also managed to shoot an Osprey…
