July 27, 2022 – Re-post

The extreme heat and some automotive challenges have kept me housebound for some time. Just to keep things going I’m re-posting my walk from this day one year ago. Certain strange technical issues with the WordPress platform are preventing this post from showing correctly on the HSC Homepage. So if you would like to see this historical post in all its glory please click HERE. Environment:Start Time: 6:30 AM Temperature: 67 degrees Sky: Clouds and Sunshine. Lake Pueblo State Park was not so much muggy, as it was on my last outing, as it was outright soggy this morning. Last…

Environment:Start Time: 6:45 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sun with a few clouds in the western sky. Quite pleasant once again this morning thanks to a gentle breeze offering some temperature moderation. Even so you could tell that it was going to be a hot one today. The only birds I photographed today were (surprise) the Osprey family in what I have started calling the River Bend Nest. I was really surprised to see all three kids present. There were a lot of Osprey gliding high in the sky, probably other youngsters learning the secrets of flight. Otherwise I resorted…

Environment:Start Time: 6:55 AM Temperature: 62 degrees Sky: Sun, haze and humidity. Another nice morning with very low wildlife activity. I guess things are moving along, though. Only one of the juvenile Ospreys (featured) was present at the river bend nest. He looked a little bewildered but was still being watched over from afar by one of the adults. The most active bird I encountered was the Black-capped Chickadee pictured here who was feverishly working the bare branches and being pretty successful at not being photographed. I did manage to get a good photo of a Great Horned Owl who…

Environment:Start Time: 6:45 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Sunshine. You can’t win ’em all. Despite stellar weather most of my bird friends kept to themselves. Except, of course, for the Grackles and Starlings who were having some type of festival – they were flying everywhere. Not sure if this activity has scared off my Redheaded Woodpecker but it was nowhere to be found. Fortunately, yesterday’s successes can bleed over to today. Both images posted today were shot yesterday. Featured image is the Osprey family (minus one parent) chillin’ in the nest most likely waiting for the breakfast order to be…
