November 16, 2022 – Repost

Weather today in 2023 is not cooperating so I am reaching back into the archive to see what was going on in 2022! Enjoy. Environment:Start Time: 3:30 PM Temperature: 45 degrees Sky: Sun with light breeze. Bright sunshine and less of a breeze were the order of the day. Lake Pueblo State Park was pretty quite with only the smaller birds (and not many of them) busy with their normal activities. Today’s featured image is a Rusty Blackbird ( a new bird for me) that I thought was a Starling when I made the capture but Google set me straight….

Yet another bit of history for your enjoyment. As you can see – November can be a tough month. Environment:Start Time: 9:25 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Walking conditions were much better this morning but birding conditions remain disappointing. I think yesterday’s wind blew away all the little birds. The bigger birds were keeping their distance today. The image posted below is an example of the kind of distance I’m talking about. I took the shot in hopes of at least making an ID of the largish bird I saw perched in the distant tree. I don’t…

Here is another post pulled from the archives. Environment:Start Time: 3:30 PM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine, little breeze As colder morning temperatures start to make their appearances in the Autumn I change my walking schedule to put me at Lake Pueblo State Park in the late afternoon. This is what happened today and, all in all, things went pretty well. On my way into the park I was struck by the late afternoon light that was falling onto Liberty Point so I pulled over and took one of the landscapes posted below. After that I continued on…

November 10, 2022 – Repost

While I’m spending time with family here is a reposting of a previous walk. Enjoy Environment:Start Time: 3:35 PM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sun with malicious breeze. Today’s tour of Lake Pueblo State Park was a mixed bag of great light, sparse bird presence and biting breezes. Mule Deer did their best to make up for the issues – they were everywhere. And my only bird capture was a lucky break and is today’s featured image. I spotted a Belted Kingfisher – on my side of the river – who was perched perfectly in the light of the setting Sun….

Environment:Start Time: 8:00 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Great Blue Herons were the only birds I was able to capture today – and they did not make it easy. Both of these birds were perching well into the now faded Autumn leaves. And both were giving me some stern looks. Sightings:Birds: Mallards, Gadwalls, Gulls, Starlings, White-crowned Sparrows, Belted Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, American Kestrel, Woodpecker, White-breasted NuthatchCritters: Prairie Dogs Gear: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Lumix 100-300mm, Olympus EE-1 Dot Sight

November 04, 2023

Environment:Start Time: 8:30 AM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: Sunshine. I took a stab at a morning tour of Lake Pueblo State park today. The Bald Eagles I was hoping to find did not show up. On the smaller end of the bird spectrum a bunch of American Bushtits did appear and this one paused long enough for me to make a capture. I also had some luck with a female Belted Kingfisher who landed on a perch quite close to me – my only complaint is that she tried to hide behind a leafy twig. Still she landed the featured…
