The featured image, again, goes to a juvenile Osprey who may be the only one left to manage the number of fish in the Arkansas River. I saw two perched Osprey today but I can’t say for sure if I saw two different birds. With the weather forecasts that I have been hearing lately, I hope it (or they) head South tonight. Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 37 degrees Sky: Sunshine. This morning’s outing was 100% dedicated to shooting Autumn Color in Rock Canyon. This plan left me out on trail without the equipment required to photograph any but the closest of birds. I fully expected to see Eagles, Hawks, Ospreys, Owls and possibly Emus all cavorting around the park. That didn’t happen for some reason. What did happen was evidence that the Cottonwoods are finally getting into the Autumn spirit. The featured image is the last one I shot today – a nice reflection in the still waters of the Anticline…

If it wasn’t for the two juvenile Ospreys still hanging around the only picture I’d be willing to post is the White-crowned Sparrow pictured here. But the flashy Ospreys steal the show once again. The Great Blue Heron pictured here (and everywhere else on the post) is the only bird that I even got close to this morning. I’m so happy it was on my side of the river and felt like getting its picture on the Internet. I saw no Cormorants, Ospreys or Red-tailed Hawks. Which is more than I can say for my feathered friends. I only managed to photograph two birds today. The (possible) White-crowned Sparrow pictured here who was the only Sparrow who had the time to pause and look around and the American Kestrel who won the featured photo slot by virtue of the active nature evident. Environment:Start Time: 7:15 AM Temperature: 45 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds. It’s starting to get a little chilly in the mornings at Lake Pueblo State Park. I haven’t yet had to resort to wearing my mittens. So far there aren’t many of the Winter birds showing up. There were quite a few White-crowned Sparrows – one pictured here. There is still one juvenile Osprey (featured) hanging around and it seems to have gotten quite skilled at plucking fish from the Arkansas River.
