Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Sunshine. If it wasn’t for the two juvenile Ospreys still hanging around the only picture I’d be willing to post is the White-crowned Sparrow pictured here. But the flashy Ospreys steal the show once again. Featured is an Osprey who was tired of me spying on it and took off for a more private perch on which to finish off what is left of the fish it is carrying. The Osprey at the bottom of this post was a bit higher up and so didn’t mind my attention. However it did leave…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 47 degrees Sky: Clouds and sunshine. The Great Blue Heron pictured here (and everywhere else on the post) is the only bird that I even got close to this morning. I’m so happy it was on my side of the river and felt like getting its picture on the Internet. I saw no Cormorants, Ospreys or Red-tailed Hawks. I did get a brief glance at a passing Cooper’s Hawk and I saw some American Kestrels way up in a tree as I drove home. Happily, the Heron shots are pretty decent so I guess the…

Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 37 degrees Sky: Sunshine and haze. My flip-top mittens were welcome companions on this morning’s walk. Autumn’s crispness was all around. Which is more than I can say for my feathered friends. I only managed to photograph two birds today. The (possible) White-crowned Sparrow pictured here who was the only Sparrow who had the time to pause and look around and the American Kestrel who won the featured photo slot by virtue of the active nature evident. I did spend some time chasing a Cooper’s Hawk through some trees but never got a frame in…

Environment:Start Time: 7:15 AM Temperature: 45 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds. It’s starting to get a little chilly in the mornings at Lake Pueblo State Park. I haven’t yet had to resort to wearing my mittens. So far there aren’t many of the Winter birds showing up. There were quite a few White-crowned Sparrows – one pictured here. There is still one juvenile Osprey (featured) hanging around and it seems to have gotten quite skilled at plucking fish from the Arkansas River. One other Fish Plucker was pretty busy this morning – the Belted Kingfisher posted at the bottom of…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 52 degrees Sky: Hazy filtered sunshine. Haze remains a mitigating factor to the morning sunlight but it isn’t too big of a problem. Things were kind of quiet today with not a sign of an Osprey anywhere. I would think this would bring out the Red-tails and the Cooper’s Hawks but they, too, were absent. Featured is a Great Horned Owl who was appreciating the quiet atmosphere while snoozing happily high up in a tree as the morning sunlight warmed its big belly. The Great Blue Heron whose portrait is posted here allowed me to…
