Crazy warm this morning. Don’t know if it was this “heat” but there was not a lot happening along the Arkansas River today. I did see a Red-Tailed Hawk circling high in the sky. While I stood hoping s/he would coast my way I noticed that s/he was not alone up there. A smaller bird was vigorously harassing the hawk. I was not sure of the kind of bird the attacker was but it crossed my mind, when I saw its silhouette as he swung around to take another pass, that it was a Killdeer. I dismissed this identification because I haven’t seen a Killdeer for quite some time. Well, about a hundred yards further upriver I saw a Killdeer actively working the river bank so I guess I may have been right about the ID after all. Not many of the few pictures I shot today were particularly interesting so today’s featured image is of a perched American Bald Eagle in a Cottonwood tree that I shot last year on this date. Below is a shot of a Ring-Billed Gull headed up the Arkansas River.
