The holiday weekend is long gone and the rain has let up so it was time to head out to Lake Pueblo State Park once again. Things were looking good out there and the mud was far less than I expected. On the birding front today was a bit different than usual. The Arkansas River is still quite high (because of the rain) so I only saw one Mallard, one Cormorant and two Common Mergansers out on the water. I ran across a group of four Turkey Vultures (is that a flock?) perched in some trees on the eastern edge of my normal path and I got several good shots of them one of which is today’s featured image. I also noticed that at least one of the Starling nests that I have been watching had two nestlings poking their heads out waiting (I assume) for the next meal to arrive. I have posted an image of them here but you have to look closely they were pretty high up in the tree. The big prize for today’s outing goes to the image (posted below) of a Green Heron checking out the Arkansas River. This is only the second Green Heron I have ever seen here so I was pretty pumped!
