Great Blue Heron at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Gorgeous weather continues. Bird drought also continues. I have to admit that I left the park after today’s walk feeling like the trip had not been as successful as others. I thought all I had was a Squirrel and a heron to show for my efforts. But when I got home and looked at what I had I was really surprised. There were two subjects that I had photographed which I had no hope of being any good. The first of these is posted below of a Red-tailed Hawk being chased from the area by a little Western Kingbird. That little guy was absolutely pounding the bigger bird. Shortly thereafter a Bullock’s Oriole flew past me and I fired of a quick shot. That shot is today’s featured image (above) which blew me away. Lucky shot! Also posted are the afore mentioned Heron and Squirrel.
