Wood Duck at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Yet another okay day for walking. Still hazy and a little humid though the Sun’s heat was tempered by these conditions. Bird activity was pretty tempered as well. Today’s featured image of two Canada Geese is one I shot on August 7 and didn’t have room to post. Glad I saved it. Below is that Solitary Sandpiper that I’ve been trying to capture all month. He is always on the other side of the river and really seems to know when I am pointing a camera at him. Anyway I got a shot of it flying away that is mostly in focus. The little Wood Duck posted here caught my attention in that it was hanging around with a group of Mallard hens. No other Wood Ducks were in evidence and he (universal “He”) was not letting these Mallard ladies out of his sight. They would swim away and he would zoom after them. I think he has lost his family and is hoping for an adoption.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Wood Duck, Osprey, Swallows, Double Crested Cormorants, Canada Geese, Mourning Doves, Starlings, Northern Flicker, Blue Jays, Flycatcher, Gulls, Blue Grosbeak, possible Bushtits, probable Wren, Great Blue Heron
Critters: Cabbage Butterfly, Prairie Dogs, yellow colored Butterfly, Stink Beetles

Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300mm
