Great Horned Owl at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Absolutely one of the best mornings of the Summer is what I got this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. The wildfire haze was limited enough to allow clouds in the sky to be discerned and the sky itself had a decidedly bluish tint. Today’s featured image (above) is proof of the blue sky with a pair of American Kestrels checking out the scenery from on high. I got a nice shot of a Great Horned Owl but I am struck by how wintry the image looks after editing. Really, I shot this one today! I also got to shoot what I believe to be one of the juvenile Sharp-shinned Hawks that I’ve been seeing over the past week or so. He was steadily calling – for whom I do not know – but that is how I was able to find him in an otherwise perfect hiding place.
