Check out last year’s walk on this day!
More great weather lured me out to Lake Pueblo State Park again this morning. Spectacular walking conditions. Birding was not that spectacular, I’m afraid. The bright spot came when a Great Blue Heron took flight from its treetop perch earning itself the honor of being today’s featured image. Another winner of the get on the Internet competition is the duck picture posted here. At first glance I called it as a male Mallard – but there was something a little off – namely the color of its head. Not green. And he was a pretty beefy fellow. So I ran the image through Google Lens when I got home and Google identifies this guy as a Rouen Duck. According to Wikipedia this is a domesticated duck – very similar in plumage to a Mallard with the exception of head color and size. I guess this one escaped from the domestic life for a shot at returning to the wild.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Rouen Duck, Osprey, Double Crested Cormorants, Canada Geese, Starlings, Mourning Dove, Hawk, Belted Kingfisher, Red-winged Blackbird, Great Blue Heron, Common Grackles
Critters: Prairie Dogs, Monarch Butterfly, Tree Squirrels
Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300mm
