Clouds were muting the sunlight this afternoon but I ventured out just the same. Really good walking weather all in all. Lake Pueblo State Park was not as busy – people-wise – today. Also bird-wise. But I still managed to get a great shot of a Great Blue Heron in flight (featured image) and a shot of the same bird moments before he decided to launch into the sky. Of course, the reason he launched was because I was trying to get even closer than I already was. The only other real action was on the Arkansas River where the ducks and grebes were making the most of the warm temperatures. I caught a couple of Buffleheads flying up-river – posted below.

Birds: Mallards, Common Goldeneye, Gulls, Pied-billed Grebe, belted kingfisher, Starlings, American Robins, White-crowned Sparrows, Great Blue Heron, Canada Geese, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Flicker
Critters: Tree Squirrels, Prairie Dogs
