Yet another expected warm afternoon brought me out to Lake Pueblo State Park for a morning hike. There still aren’t as many birds out and about as I would like to see but I still managed to bring home some interesting captures. My favorite of the day is today’s featured image – a Pied-billed Grebe attempting to swallow a fish s/he just pulled from the Arkansas River. That fish looks to be about as big as the little Grebe’s head but it eventually went down the hatch! While this was all going of an American Coot stood (one – legged) on a nearby log looking on calmly. One Adult Eagle was haunting the Anticline Fishing Pond but eventually took to the air to circle high overhead. There was a Red-tailed Hawk cruising the same area and I was hoping to catch the two in an aerial tussle but that did not develop. The two shots at the bottom of this post are a couple of scenic views featuring a large bird perched on high.
