A thin layer of morning clouds had all but vanished by the time I made it out to Lake Pueblo State Park for my morning tour. Activity, maybe due to the temperature, was pretty low. Only one of the Cooper’s Hawk kids was anywhere to be seen and it wasn’t far from where it has been perched over the last two days. I think it is having trouble figuring out his role in the grand scheme of things. Today’s featured image is what Google says is an Orchard Oriole – I am assuming a female and one that hasn’t quite mastered flight. Even the Arkansas River was pretty unpopulated (the geese are back out there) – pictured are a Double Crested Cormorant and a Mallard drake out for a morning swim. Below is a Spotted Sandpiper who was on the river’s edge apparently trying to scratch its head on its back.
