I was walking slowly along the paved trail looking into the trees on my right hoping to find a Cooper’s Hawk (which I did later) when there was a explosion of flapping birds on my left. I was startled to say the least. I turned to see around a half dozen junior turkeys flying in all directions. If they hadn’t broke cover I would never have seen them. One of them landed on a nearby branch – yes, a branch – and became today’s featured image. S/He is awful cute, too. I never saw mom or dad. My other triumph of the day is the photo below of a Barn Swallow in flight. Something I’ve been trying to get for many years. This is not the greatest shot but it gives me hope. I’m closing the post with another not so great photo of a Common Sandpiper. This poor bird who would usually be found along the river bank has been forced over to the calmer fishing pond by the high, fast water currently blasting down the river.
