Another gloomy overcast morning. Normally I might have just thrown in the towel and stayed home. I felt bad about that option today since I had let strong gusty wind keep me home yesterday. So we got to our walking point around 6:20 or so. No wind today (no light either) and a coolish 57 degrees.

The first leg of our trip was quite uneventful. Once I had deposited Whisper into the car it (finally) occurred to me that I did not necessarily have to stick strictly to the trails. Embracing this revelation I trudged off into the underbrush and cut from the parking lot to the trail through a wooded area. I was hoping to either spot an owl or find a hawk I had seen earlier but was not able to identify. Neither of these things happened. What did happen was that I flushed out a fawn from his hiding place. This is the first fawn I have seen this year. My attempt to photograph his hasty exit was not successful. My one success of the walk came near the end when I managed to catch the heron family at home. Once again, my effort to get a suitable angle chased the adults away but I managed a shot of two of the “little” ones. I apologize for the low quality – did I mention that the light was crappy?
