Environment:
Start Time: 7:00 AM Temperature: 30 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine.
Things were a bit chilly to start this morning because the Sun was having trouble cutting through a pesky low-hanging cloud bank. Eventually things improved. The biggest surprise of the day (but not the best picture) was the arrival of a Double Crested Cormorant on the fishing pond. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cormorant here in February. A female Belted Kingfisher favored me with a quick perch on my side of the river and a White-breasted Nuthatch even got kind of close, though it did not stand still for long. Featured today is an artsy shot of a Great Blue Heron perching in the Winter trees and at the bottom of the post is another attempt at art with a lone Mule Deer doe in a dramatic early morning pose. One other bit of excitement – I saw a Western Meadowlark on my way out of the park. Spring is definitely on the way.
