Environment:
Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 38 degrees Sky: Sunny.
After a day of extra blustery wind this morning was clear, calm and very sunny. Not super active, though. Today’s featured image sort of captures the mood – a Mallard couple sleeping on the rocks in the middle of the Arkansas River. The most action that I saw came early on in my walk when two Kestrels (below) decided to engage in some intimate activity to cap off the nesting season. No Cooper’s hawks or Owls were anywhere to be seen. The Osprey were keeping a low profile, as well. I thought I heard a Blue Grosbeak but I’m not willing to make any bets on that. The Red-tailed Hawk was patiently perching close to its nest, enjoying a quiet morning. The bottom of this post is what Google identifies as a Greater Yellowlegs. I’ve seen these before but this is the best picture of one that I have made.
