As you can see in today’s featured image – I saw (at least) one freshly minted Great Horned Owl in the nest with Mom this morning. I looked back at last year’s brood and the first babies I saw then was on April 04, so things seem to be proceeding on schedule. It was really pretty windy out on the trail this morning (approaching scary windy) but there was a group of Turkey Vultures who were having some fun riding the wind currents that were rising up from the bluffs of the canyon walls. I also spotted one Great Horned Owl who was really annoyed with the wind and had to make serious changes to where he was perched so he could get some shut-eye. The Arkansas River is running pretty high with only Red-breasted Mergansers and Cormorants willing to go for a swim.
