The concerns about the absence of birds and critters at Lake Pueblo State Park I expressed yesterday were soothed somewhat today with the appearance of a number of my avian friends. I got chances to shoot a hairy woodpecker and a white-breasted nuthatch but my efforts were not successful. There were a number of what I call “flitty” birds – those are the ones that flit from branch to branch not stopping long enough to be either identified or photographed. The day was saved by a group of wild turkeys exploring one of the clearings near the Arkansas River. There were two hens and three or four young chicks all grazing in the warm morning sun. I was amazed that they were so tolerant of my presence. I shot quite a few pictures and, in the end, it was me who left the scene first.

My featured image for the day is of a stand of Russian Olive that was growing on the river bank.
