Thanks to a decent rain storm yesterday and a “Cool Front” passing through the wildfire haze that has been plaguing the area is gone – at least for today.
A Day of Mistaken Identity
I did not get a lot of opportunities to shoot many birds this morning. The cool weather probably made them all sleep in. I try to find “new” birds for posting to this blog so we all don’t get sick of Ospreys, Owls and Cormorants. Even with only a few shots taken I got home thinking I had captures of a Canvasback Duck and a Western Kingbird. The Kingbird was the most exciting since I have seen very few of them this year. Just to be sure of my identifications (which are posted here without guarantee) I ran the two images through Google Lens for confirmation. To my surprise the Canvasback Duck turned out to be a Mallard Duck (image below.) My Western Kingbird is, it seems, actually a Say’s Phoebe – today’s featured image above. I guess it is a good thing because I can add Say’s Phoebe to my personal list of bird sightings though it is hard to say that it is a “new” bird – I’ve probably been misidentifying them for years.
Sightings:
Birds: Osprey, Say’s Phoebe, Starlings, Hawk, Flitty Birds, Cormorant, Mallard Ducks
Critters: Mule Deer
Gear: Lumix GX-85, 45-150mm
