To celebrate the first full day of Winter I came home with a collection of long shots. Featured is a Killdeer in flight over the Arkansas River. pictured here is a Cooper’s Hawk (most of it, anyway) perched well off the trail and almost hidden by a tangle of bare branches. This was the best angle I could achieve before it flew off. At bottom is a male Belted Kingfisher who miraculously flew past me right after snagging a small fish from the river. You can still see water droplets being blown off its wings.
