A dicey weather forecast for this afternoon and some pretty decent morning temps brought me out for a morning stroll at Lake Pueblo State Park. One of the better decisions I’ve made in my life. Right from the get-go it was literally eagle, eagle, eagle! I stepped out of my car and saw two adult American Bald Eagles perched on the southwestern edge of the Anticline Fishing Pond. I wasted no time heading over there and taking as many captures as I could. It was pretty exciting when one of the adults shot out and took a pass at a Seagull who was on the pond ice. The gull got away – so I turned my attention to the other still perched adult and noticed that just a little higher up the tree was a juvenile Bald Eagle! Today’s featured image is a portrait of the two whom I assume are parent and child. After a little while both of these birds flew off and I continued with my walk. It wasn’t long before I heard screeching sounds coming from deeper in the woods and I caught a glimpse of two Red-tailed Hawks attacking one of the adult eagles and driving it out of the area. Sadly, there was no way to get any kind of photos of the kerfuffle. I did get a shot of one of the Red-tails taking a victory lap over its territory. I wish all my outings were this exciting.
