Eagle! Eagle!
I could not resist heading out for a morning walk when I saw that the air temperature was well into the forties and the sky was mostly clear. When I got out on the trail I was surprised at the low number of fishermen out on the Arkansas River. With today being “Super Bowl Sunday” I figured all the fishermen in town would be out trying to catch their limit before the big game kick-off. Speaking of low numbers, the apparent bird population was unbelievably low. My hopes rose when I saw a couple of Red-tailed Hawks circling high in the sky but they slowly spun off to the North. Two different sets of hikers advised me that there was an Eagle perched further along my path so I proceeded with some encouragement. Sure enough, there was not only one American Bald Eagle but two – adults both. Looking at the photos I have posted it looks like only one of the magnificent birds is represented here – I guess because the other one was not so favorably positioned. But I did get good shots of both and even a little video which i will be posting later today. Considering who showed up for me to photograph I guess I will be rooting for the Eagles today.
