While I was patiently waiting for a Belted Kingfisher to take flight a rather loud kerfuffle erupted on the Arkansas River as a male Red-breasted Merganser surfaced with a big fish in his mouth and a hen (his mate?) started after him to take the prize away. This, naturally, is today’s featured image. A little earlier in the morning I was concentrating on a Red-tailed Hawk, hoping it would take flight, when out of nowhere an adult American Bald Eagle flew overhead. The picture below is the only one of the few shots I took that is close to being in focus though I did not get the whole bird in frame. Also pictured here is an American Kestrel who also did not take flight but didn’t attract any other kind of distraction. I’m closing with another shot of the Wet Mountains lighting up in the morning sunrise.
