The weather remains fantastic while the birding remains much less so. Today’s featured shot is a Red-tailed Hawk who was perched well off the trail and very high up in the tree. I couldn’t really tell whether it was eating a catch or just coughing up a pellet but something dropped away just before I got focused. After that it had to attend to an itch on the back of its head. Starlings are appearing in greater numbers these mornings – pictured here gathered in a treetop discussing the day’s plan. I also captured another Great Blue Heron perched up in a tree. I’m not sure why they are not spending more time on the river when I am around. Perhaps I’ve answered my own question.
