Great Blue Heron at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Today’s weather took a favorable turn today with fewer clouds and way less wind than earlier days of this week. This welcome change in the weather brought me and a good number of my bird buddies out to Lake Pueblo State Park. Today’s featured image is a Great Horned Owl who was kind of annoyed with me (can you tell by the look I’m getting?) Pictured here is a long shot of a Great Blue Heron that seemed to be enjoying the sunset and (below) a Cooper’s Hawk who was getting down to rustling up some grub. The two Pied-billed Grebes at the bottom of this post are my favorite shots of the outing. These two were feeding in the Arkansas River very close to the bank where I was walking. They didn’t seem to even notice me which is why I got such great close up shots.
