Yet another quality afternoon for a stroll by the Arkansas River. Lots of folks were out with me. There were a good number of birds around today but most of them saw me before I saw them so I didn’t come home with much. Today’s featured image is some of the Gadwalls I caught studying the river very closely. Also posted is a very long shot of a Hairy Woodpecker busy whittling down a dead tree. Below is a scene that caught my eye – very Southern Colorado Winter.
Boring Photography Discussion Follows
Today’s pictures are not particularly good. I wanted to see if my infrared conversion camera could be used as a birding camera with the use of a “Hot Mirror” filter – which effectively converts it back to a “normal” daylight camera. This camera is so much lighter than my normal birding kit that I just had to give it a go. The results speak for themselves. The color balance is totally out of whack and the longer shots suffer from serious chromatic aberration as the blue tree branches in the woodpecker shot demonstrate. I won’t be doing this again.
