The Sun was having difficulties getting through an Eastern bank of clouds this morning which was making it tough to shoot the birds who were sticking mostly to the shadows. The only birds I caught in the Sun were the Red-tailed Hawk and the Western Kingbird that was attacking it (featured image) and the Great Horned Owl (below) who was sleeping soundly on a low branch of the Owl Tree. I only took a long shot of the owl because I didn’t want to wake it from its dreams of fields of tasty mice. I saw two of the three Cooper’s Hawk youngsters and got a crappy shot of one of them. I also ran across a young Eastern Kingbird who was exploring a Russian Olive tree. The last shady bird of the day, at the bottom of this post, is what Google says is an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Once again, Google and I are not on the same page as I would call Brown-crested Flycatcher.
