The extreme heat and some automotive challenges have kept me housebound for some time. Just to keep things going I’m re-posting my walk from this day one year ago. Certain strange technical issues with the WordPress platform are preventing this post from showing correctly on the HSC Homepage. So if you would like to see this historical post in all its glory please click HERE.

Lake Pueblo State Park was not so much muggy, as it was on my last outing, as it was outright soggy this morning. Last night’s rain fell in Biblical quantities turning some picnic areas into swamps and the unpaved trails into ponds. The Arkansas River water is back to runoff levels and I only saw a few ducks out on the water. Today’s featured image is a lone juvenile Wood Duck drake who is obviously one of the brave ones. The mini-gallery at the bottom of this post are three other images that were all in contention for the featured image spot but got sent to the bottom because they were all perched, making a nice coherent collection. Among those perched below is a shot of my first Blue Grosbeak of 2022 and he did not disappoint.

At least one family of Mallard Ducks (minus dad) congregate near the shore of the Arkansas River at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado
