Environment:
Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 63 degrees Sky: Bright sunshine.
Sizzling temps are only slightly mitigating but my wheels are repaired so I took a shot at hitting the trail this morning. It was 63 when I started but 76 as I drove home a little over an hour later. Not super pleasant. Though I did see a lot of the usual suspects in the wildlife category, I caught some more unusual birds and critters today. Featured (above) is a Western Spotted Orbweaver spider who was hanging center web hoping for some breakfast to drop in. Pictured here is a Flycatcher bird that my good friends at Google were not able to identify with high confidence. Maybe a Peewee, maybe a Phoebe, maybe not. The Wild Sunflowers are starting to go to seed and I saw a Black-capped Chickadee feasting with a number of American Goldfinches helping out. The picture at the bottom of this post is what I believe to be a juvenile Redheaded Woodpecker. I say this because the nest it is looking out of is the same one I captured with an adult Redhead coming and going. I’ll be keeping an eye on developments here.
