Yet another calm sunny day in the low sixties this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. Monday morning found very few people in the park at a little before 6:10.

Osprey at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

As luck would have it an Osprey was actively surveying the Anticline Fishing Pond as I started out on the second leg of today’s outing (the one with no doggie escort.) Which means I had the 300mm lens on the Nikon and I was ready to shoot. The Osprey seemed to be having trouble spotting his breakfast and soon abandoned the pond in favor of the Arkansas River. I was in hot pursuit and managed to get a number of shots of the big fella in flight one of which is posted on the right.

Other than the Osprey there was not a lot of other bird/wildlife activity. I did discover that the starling nest I’ve been watching is still in use though the activity is quite infrequent. There was no activity at the heron nest nor did any owls make themselves available to be photographed. For the featured picture today I have an Eastern Kingbird perched in front of the Arkansas River waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting flying insects that should happen by.

Sightings:

Critters: Mule Deer, Squirrel
