At the risk of sounding redundant this morning was another calm sunny day in the low sixties at Lake Pueblo State Park. Monday morning, again, found very few people in the park at a little before 6:10. However, those people who had ventured out remembered to bring their dogs.

Indigo Bunting at Lake Pueblo State Park in Colorado

Though not a banner day in the bird photography world I did manage to sight (and later identify) a bird that I have not encountered before on my walks – an Indigo Bunting. I had a tough time photographing him because he was bouncing from branch to branch on a fallen tree and all of those bare branches were making it difficult for the camera’s auto-focus system to get a lock on the bird. I finally had to switch to manual focus mode and was able to get the shot on the right. Let me just say that using manual focus while tethered to a little dog is not an easy thing to do.

Today’s featured image (above) is that of a Mule Deer doe grazing in the morning light. Not a spectacular shot by any measure but I was just so happy to shoot a deer that wasn’t looking right at me that I couldn’t resist.
