Had a little action out on the trail this morning. One of my first stops is the now active American Kestrel nest. I got to watch the mom (I think) deliver some kind of bug to junior’s waiting beak – pictured below. Today’s featured image is her (?) taking off after the feeding. The reason she took off is because she was being attacked by a rather persistent and nasty Western Kingbird – kerfuffle pictured here. If both these birds are nesting close to each other this is probably going to be a difficult to resolve territorial issue. A little later on I witnessed four or five Western Kingbirds giving chase to one of the Red-tail Hawk parents pretty close to the hawk’s nest – another difficult situation. In addition to all this conflict the park is really blooming as demonstrated by the bouquet of images closing out today’s blather.
