Started out this morning (6:20) in 66 degree heat – the hottest start so far in 2020. Abundant sunshine might have made the walk miserable but a steady breeze helped make things seem cooler. The breeze also helped keep the annoying flying bugs in check.
As far as wildlife photography goes there was not much going on. I did sight a “new” hawk but was unable to identify it. I was standing by a tree on the river bank wondering why all the swallows (who were doing their acrobatics right in front of me) were chirping loudly. This is not, in my experience, normal behavior. All of a sudden this hawk broke from the tree and took off up river with a number of swallows quite literally hot on his tail. The remaining swallows ceased the chatter and got back to their normal business.
So I guess this post is going to lean toward landscape photography since the birds were so stand-offish. Today’s featured image is a panorama of Liberty Point that I shot June 29, 2018. Liberty Point is a favorite subject of mine because it has “monumental” character and many moods that shift with the time of day and the weather. The image below I shot today ( the only image I shot today) and it, too, is a favorite subject of mine. As you can see it is an early morning shot of the Lake Pueblo Dam with Pikes Peak looking on in the background. I pass by this location every time I come to the park and am always checking the scene out for dramatic impact. Today’s scene lured me off the road to capture the shot.
