My walk today was not as exciting as yesterday’s was. The Osprey were busy flying around (I even caught one fishing) but no Bald Eagles showed up to incite a fracas. I made my nest checking rounds to see what was up. Nothing was going on at the Red-tailed Hawk nest. I discovered a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk (below) sitting in last year’s nest but I’m having trouble believing this bird was hatched this year. It just seems too big, too soon. Featured is the Great Horned Owl nest with mom and one of the babies. I could not account for one of the three. Also I have discovered a Say’s Phoebe Nest in the Informational Kiosk by the Anticline Fishing Pond where there is usually a Barn Swallow nest. I guess variety is a good thing. There were quite a few House Wrens out and about. Pictured here is one that knew how to use the morning light.
