Today’s walk was kind of interesting. Great weather. Good variety of birds. The featured image is a Cooper’s Hawk who flew in while I was checking out the Cooper’s nest. What’s strange is that this birds eye color leads me to believe this is a juvenile and not one of the breeding adults I have been stalking all Spring. One of the two (?) Ornate Tree Lizards was catching some rays on its tree stump home and I caught a Western Meadowlark working the prairie right by the entrance to Rock Canyon. I also managed to spot a Raccoon in the woods well off the trail – what it was doing up so “late” is anyone’s guess but it was really interested in something there on the ground. Capping off my nesting tour at the bottom of this post is a Red-tailed Hawk in her (?) nest keeping a close eye on the proceedings. I did not even realize that she was in the shot until I reviewed the day’s product after my walk was over.
