Great Horned Owl at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Today’s outing was a little out of the ordinary due to the fact that I spotted a Great Horned Owl perched in a tree as I drove into Rock Canyon. I think this is the first time I’ve ever sighted an owl from my car – while driving. So I parked in a different spot and headed back on foot to grab the shot below. On my way out of the park, also driving, I noticed that the owl was still there but no longer asleep due to the rather large Crow that was giving it the business with some loud crow calls. This noise eventually attracted a couple of Norther Flickers who joined in the harassment festivities. Otherwise, activity was kind of low. I did see one Osprey and an American Kestrel. Today’s featured image is my attempt to turn a so-so photo into a work of art. Meh.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Blue-winged teal, Wood Duck (?), European Starlings, Double Crested Cormorants, Northern Flickers, Canada Geese, Ring-billed Gulls, Crow, Black-capped Chickadee, Osprey
Critters: Mule Deer, Cabbage White Butterfly, Grasshoppers, Tarantula

Gear: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm
