Red-winged Blackbird at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

I guess October has been saving it for a big finish! Today’s walk at Lake Pueblo State Park was as bountiful as it was beautiful. Lots of birds and critters were out enjoying a fabulous morning. There were a bunch of mostly cooperative smaller birds that I’ve posted in the bottom gallery of this post. One, the Lincoln’s Sparrow is a new bird for me and I guess the American Goldfinch is a female. I got another White-crowned Sparrow and a Red-winged Blackbird was snacking nearby. I guess those Wild Sunflowers are tasty to the last bit. My shutter finger was getting sore. I was also surprised to catch a couple of butterflies out finishing off the Rabbitbrush blooms. Below are a Cabbage White Butterfly and an Orange Sulphur butterfly. Today’s featured image is of a group of three Mule Deer doe who were apparently taking their four youngsters (couldn’t get them all in one frame) on a waling tour of the park. They really seemed annoyed to see me and tried to stand their ground for a little bit. I finally broke through.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Gulls, American Kestrel, American Robins, Blue Jay, Canada Geese, Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrow, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Dark-eyed Juncos, Northern Flickers, American Goldfinch, Hairy Woodpecker
Critters: Prairie Dogs, Grasshoppers, Tree Squirrels, Mule Deer, Cabbage White Butterfly, Orange Sulphur Butterfly

Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300MM
