Sharp-shinned Hawk at Lake Pueblo State Park, Colorado

Did I say not much was happening at Lake Pueblo State Park yesterday? I guess I misspoke. Compared to today, yesterday was an absolute festival. I know the sightings box (below) shows a number of birds out but technically most of those sightings should be referred to as nano-sightings since I only saw the birds in passing. The only bird I captured was a Sharp-shinned Hawk (posted) who was deep in the leaves making the shot rather poor and only visible through some heroic image editing by yours truly. So, once again, today’s featured image is an insect. A Monarch Butterfly on Rabbitbrush – look closely and you can see its curly tongue! The funny thing about it is if you check out my post for this day one year ago (here) you will see not much has changed – only I got a few more birds that day.

Sightings:
Birds: Mallards, Double Crested Cormorant, Canada Geese, Starlings, Northern Flicker, Gulls, Killdeer, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Blue Jays, Black-capped Chickadee, Belted Kingfisher
Critters: Prairie Dogs, Monarch Butterfly, Grasshoppers, Mule Deer

Gear: Nikon D5600, 55-300mm
