Environment:Start Time: 3:10 PM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine and a few clouds. After three days of heavy snow followed by two days of decent sunshine I finally decided it was safe enough to return to Rock Canyon at Lake Pueblo Stated Park and see how things had held up. Turns out – not too bad. I only saw one fallen branch and no new downed trees. Much better than my neighborhood. Still I took it kind of easy since the unpaved trails were pretty muddy. Bird-wise things were definitely sparse. The Red-tailed Hawk pictured here was a welcome surprise…

Environment:Start Time: 8:05 AM Temperature: 33 degrees Sky: Mostly sunshine. No Herons Were Harmed in the Making of this Post Great Blue Herons were not the only types of birds that I managed to photograph this first day of November. But their images came out the best. The featured image and the one at the bottom of this post are the same bird. The one in flight pictured here might be the same one as well but I can’t be sure since they don’t wear name tags. There were three Belted Kingfishers flying up and down the river either playing…

Environment:Start Time: 7:30 AM Temperature: 46 degrees Sky: Sunshine. The featured image, again, goes to a juvenile Osprey who may be the only one left to manage the number of fish in the Arkansas River. I saw two perched Osprey today but I can’t say for sure if I saw two different birds. With the weather forecasts that I have been hearing lately, I hope it (or they) head South tonight. Wish I could go along. Also seen today were two Cooper’s Hawks – one adult (below) and one juvenile. Both appeared intent on grabbing a bite to eat. Pictured…

Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 37 degrees Sky: Sunshine. This morning’s outing was 100% dedicated to shooting Autumn Color in Rock Canyon. This plan left me out on trail without the equipment required to photograph any but the closest of birds. I fully expected to see Eagles, Hawks, Ospreys, Owls and possibly Emus all cavorting around the park. That didn’t happen for some reason. What did happen was evidence that the Cottonwoods are finally getting into the Autumn spirit. The featured image is the last one I shot today – a nice reflection in the still waters of the Anticline…

Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 50 degrees Sky: Sunshine. If it wasn’t for the two juvenile Ospreys still hanging around the only picture I’d be willing to post is the White-crowned Sparrow pictured here. But the flashy Ospreys steal the show once again. Featured is an Osprey who was tired of me spying on it and took off for a more private perch on which to finish off what is left of the fish it is carrying. The Osprey at the bottom of this post was a bit higher up and so didn’t mind my attention. However it did leave…
