Environment:Start Time: 3:00 PM Temperature: 73 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Conditions out at Lake Pueblo State Park continue to be excellent. The bird activity is even getting a little better. Today’s featured image is a Red-tailed Hawk who flew in at the treetop level just as the Sun was nearly set creating the intense show of colors on the bird’s undercarriage. I also caught a female Belted Kingfisher darting between the banks of the Arkansas River in search of a late afternoon snack. Environment:Start Time: 8:30 AM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: Sunshine. I took a stab at a morning tour of Lake Pueblo State park today. The Bald Eagles I was hoping to find did not show up. On the smaller end of the bird spectrum a bunch of American Bushtits did appear and this one paused long enough for me to make a capture. I also had some luck with a female Belted Kingfisher who landed on a perch quite close to me – my only complaint is that she tried to hide behind a leafy twig. Still she landed the featured…

The Arkansas River was surprisingly devoid of waterfowl – except for a few Mallard Ducks and the one Belted Kingfisher (I call them waterfowl because they make their living from the water) pictured here headed toward a nearby perch to enjoy some fresh breakfast.
