Environment:Start Time: 7:05 AM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Today’s post showcases three of my favorite birds of prey in three different phases of their day. Featured is a Great Horned Owl calling it a day and hunkering down on a favorite perch to get some shut-eye. Here in the middle is a female Belted Kingfisher getting things going with a stakeout on the Arkansas River. Environment:Start Time: 9:00 AM Temperature: 37 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine and increasing breeze. Another break in the weather has allowed me to show my face on the trails of Rock Canyon. Things are picking up a bit – especially on the Arkansas River. We now have a nice variety of ducks mixing in with the ever present Mallards. January’s harsh weather and my immune system have allowed me to get 2024 officially underway. I’m not saying January made it easy. Even with the warmish temperature the wicked breeze (aspiring wind) made tromping around the trail pretty close to miserable.
