December 28, 2023 – Repost

Still on Christmas break. Here is last year’s post for 12/28. Looks like things were pretty slow back then too. Environment:Start Time: 9:35 AM Temperature: 32 degrees Sky: Occasional sunshine. Very chilly to start the day at Lake Pueblo State Park. I waited at home as long as I could hoping for some warmth but had to come on out before the Sun got too high in the sky. Not that that mattered much. Activity remains low. I did get a (very) long shot of the Cooper’s Hawk pictured here. I didn’t realize until I cropped the image that it…

January 18, 2024

Environment:Start Time: 9:00 AM Temperature: 37 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine and increasing breeze. Another break in the weather has allowed me to show my face on the trails of Rock Canyon. Things are picking up a bit – especially on the Arkansas River. We now have a nice variety of ducks mixing in with the ever present Mallards. I did catch a glimpse of an adult American Bald Eagle but no photo was possible. Pictured here is a Redhead Duck who was giving the river a look-over. Featured are a pair of Great Horned Owls who were quietly soaking…

January 15, 2021 Re-post

Environment:Start Time: 2:10 PM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Sunny, few clouds, intermittent breeze Frigid conditions still holding me indoors here in 2024. Here is another walk down memory lane from this day in 2021. Hope to be back soon. The temperature finally reached a level that I deemed “walkable” with only a mild breeze so I made it out of the house this afternoon for a good long walk. I came today carrying the appropriate ee quipment for getting some bird photos. Today’s featured image of an American Kestrel demonstrates that I made a good decision. I was also lucky…

January 10, 2024

Environment:Start Time: 8:30 AM Temperature: 38 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine and heavy breeze. It finally happened. January’s harsh weather and my immune system have allowed me to get 2024 officially underway. I’m not saying January made it easy. Even with the warmish temperature the wicked breeze (aspiring wind) made tromping around the trail pretty close to miserable. Things started out well enough with the American Kestrel pictured here but not much else seemed to be happening. One Cooper’s Hawk made a wide circle around me and then flew on. So I decided to cut things short and headed for…
