November 14, 2021 – Repost

Yet another bit of history for your enjoyment. As you can see – November can be a tough month. Environment:Start Time: 9:25 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Walking conditions were much better this morning but birding conditions remain disappointing. I think yesterday’s wind blew away all the little birds. The bigger birds were keeping their distance today. The image posted below is an example of the kind of distance I’m talking about. I took the shot in hopes of at least making an ID of the largish bird I saw perched in the distant tree. I don’t…

July 27, 2022 – Re-post

The extreme heat and some automotive challenges have kept me housebound for some time. Just to keep things going I’m re-posting my walk from this day one year ago. Certain strange technical issues with the WordPress platform are preventing this post from showing correctly on the HSC Homepage. So if you would like to see this historical post in all its glory please click HERE. Environment:Start Time: 6:30 AM Temperature: 67 degrees Sky: Clouds and Sunshine. Lake Pueblo State Park was not so much muggy, as it was on my last outing, as it was outright soggy this morning. Last…

Environment:Start Time: 2:00 PM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sunny, high clouds, light wind First outing in 2021. A basically ideal day if you ignored the wind. Apparently the smaller birds were not inclined to do so except for a group of Bushtits who were too busy to get their picture taken. Hawks were out really enjoying the wind but they used it mostly to circle high in the sky. I did get a couple of shots of a Red-tailed Hawk perched pretty far away and those shots are posted here. I’m pretty sure National Geographic isn’t going to be calling…

Environment:Start Time: 3:05 PM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sunshine and clouds. A later afternoon outing found me on the South bank of the Arkansas River today. I switch banks on afternoon walks since that puts the Sun at my back as I walk along the river. What I don’t like is that there isn’t a good loop to walk so I have to travel the same country out and back which bothers me for some reason. Even so, I got some interesting shots in both directions. For one thing I got a new bird. Posted below is a Mountain Pipet…

December 09, 2021 Re-post

I continue to make progress recovery-wise. I think I am virus clear buy am remaining in isolation for safety’s sake. Here is a look back at what was happening last year. Environment:Start Time: 9:05 AM Temperature: 46 degrees Sky: Sunshine with few clouds. Pleasantly warm temperature lured me back to the morning shift and my regular route today. A pretty nice selection of avian subjects were around though not many who were interested in being posted on the Internet today. Today’s featured image (above) is a Killdeer who I surprised on the river bank before he could hide. Below is…
