Environment:Start Time: 7:25 AM Temperature: 39 degrees Sky: Sunshine. Blue Jays were the only birds that wanted to be on the Internet today. There was very little happening out on the trails. I did see the female Great Horned Owl in her nest but did not see any other nesting activity. I really hope the Osprey show up early. Environment:Start Time: 3:20 PM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Sunshine. I took a chance and went back out to Rock Canyon one day after a pretty good snow storm a day before. The temperatures had risen nicely throughout the day so I figured the trails would be passable. This turned out to be true for the paved trails but everywhere else the conditions could only be called Swampy! There was standing water or mud an inch or two deep. It was a tough slog. So I didn’t stay long. I did manage to see the Eastern Bluebird who got the featured…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 52 degrees Sky: Hazy filtered sunshine. Haze remains a mitigating factor to the morning sunlight but it isn’t too big of a problem. Things were kind of quiet today with not a sign of an Osprey anywhere. I would think this would bring out the Red-tails and the Cooper’s Hawks but they, too, were absent. Featured is a Great Horned Owl who was appreciating the quiet atmosphere while snoozing happily high up in a tree as the morning sunlight warmed its big belly. The Great Blue Heron whose portrait is posted here allowed me to…

Environment:Start Time: 6:40 AM Temperature: 61 degrees Sky: Sun and increasing clouds. Rock Canyon was bathed in fantastic Golden Hour light when I arrived (a little late) at my normal parking spot. Today’s featured image of the trees bordering the Anticline Fishing Pond is offered as proof. Sadly this glow did not last long. The clouds coming in from the North and East soon blocked the Sun and made further photography difficult. Something that I did notice going on was two sets of bird parents actively chasing and feeding their fledgling young. Pictured here is a fresh Western Kingbird who…

Environment:Start Time: 6:30 AM Temperature: 33 degrees Sky: Mostly sunshine. Activity today was mostly Osprey (fishing and nest repairs) and Blue Jays being very vocal and going after the Cottonwood Flowers which are everywhere. One of those Jays landed the featured image slot up top. Pictured below is one of the Osprey escorting a very nice catch over the park. I managed to make two passes past the Great Horned Owl nest this morning. On my first visit only Mom was visible. I imagine she was keeping her little ones warm in the cool morning air. When I came back…
