July 06, 2022

Environment:Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunshine with few clouds. After a few days off for a holiday trip I am back on the trail. Very warm and sunny – so much so that I found myself wishing for one of those breezes that I complained about in February. Lake pueblo State Park seems to have survived the Fourth of July in pretty good shape. The only Osprey action I saw came from a group of four Western Kingbirds driving one of the bigger birds from its perch over the Arkansas River. Pictured below is my first close-up…

Environment:Start Time: 7:00 AM Temperature: 69 degrees Sky: Brilliant Sunshine with a few clouds. Yet another beautiful walking day. Yet another photographically frustrating day. Still it was a little better than yesterday. The House Wren posted at the bottom was kind enough to stop for a split second so I could justify bringing my camera out to Lake Pueblo State Park. And for the featured image up top I have a Common Merganser drake cruising in the sunshine on the Arkansas River. Usually its (I assume) mate is also present but today was nowhere to be seen. Plenty of Osprey…

Environment:Start Time: 6:50 AM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: Cloudy to start – Sunny at the end. Today’s walk started out cloudy but cool and ended sunny and a little too warm. The temperature raised close to ten degrees over the course of the outing. Not a lot was going on. Today’s featured image is a Common Merganser couple who have been haunting a shallow spot on the Arkansas River for the last week. Otherwise the river is still used by only the brave at heart. One Osprey teased me by hovering over the river but it never made a strike….

Environment:Start Time: 8:05 AM Temperature: 38 degrees Sky: Sunshine few clouds with biting breeze. Today’s featured image (above) is just a sample of the snow that greeted me this morning in Rock Canyon. This is my favorite kind of snow – it falls overnight and is mostly melted by morning. The big activity today has to center around the Swallows that were swarming the Arkansas River. Just below are my attempts to capture them on my memory card. The results are at least good enough to make a positive ID – Violet-green Swallows. The mini-gallery at the bottom of this…
