Winter weather persists. Even when I get decent light the trail conditions pose danger for aged photographers. It is hard to watch the trees and sky when you also have to watch where you step. Environment:Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 42 degrees Sky: Mostly sunshine. Activity remains low (bird wise) out at Lake Pueblo State Park. There were quite a few human fishermen along and in the Arkansas River which may be why the birds were elsewhere. You can tell things were slow by my posting a European Starling here. Not the most exotic or rare bird out there. Featured are a couple of American Coots who were taking it easy on a midriver rock. There are a lot of Coots on the water this Winter. Also avoiding the river is the Great Blue Heron…

The featured image, again, goes to a juvenile Osprey who may be the only one left to manage the number of fish in the Arkansas River. I saw two perched Osprey today but I can’t say for sure if I saw two different birds. With the weather forecasts that I have been hearing lately, I hope it (or they) head South tonight. Wish I could go along. Also seen today were two Cooper’s Hawks – one adult (below) and one juvenile. Both appeared intent on grabbing a bite to eat. Pictured…
