July 05, 2020 – Repost

Still on R&R. Found this July 05 post from 2020. It is good to see the Mississippi Kite shot. These guys have not been around so much recently. We started on our walk today around 6:10 in 57 degrees and the sun behind a low cloud bank in the East. No other clouds were poised to offer any further resistance to the sun with only a small amount of haze and a very light breeze. As I expected the sun cleared the clouds just as we arrived on the river bank. The park was oddly unpopulated this morning I assume…

Environment:Start Time: 6:00 AM Temperature: 70 degrees Sky: Sunshine, clouds with light wind. I am going to blame the wind for the lack of bird images that came home on my camera’s memory card today. All of the bigger birds were riding the air currents high over Lake Pueblo State Park and the smaller birds were hunkered down out of sight (except for the Starlings and Doves). Featured today is the belly of an Osprey peacefully floating by. The one interesting (but not so good) shot that I got is what I believe to be a juvenile Blue Grosbeak. This…

Environment:Start Time: 5:40 AM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sunshine. The one bird I got even a little close to is today’s featured image – a female Downy Woodpecker. She was very busy and didn’t hang around long but finally showed me her face. Otherwise I was limited to catching birds as they flew by. Got some good ones, though. The Osprey pictured here was headed in from the direction of the Fish Hatchery – so you know this fish is young and tender! And I got a Great Blue Heron and a Red-tailed Hawk. I kind of think the hawk…

Environment:Start Time: 6:55 AM Temperature: 28 degrees Sky: Sunny and breezy. Things started off with a bang this morning. I spotted the Great Blue Heron pictured here (and top and bottom of this post) first thing. I got this nice shot of it wading in the Anticline Fishing Pond before I took one too many steps in its direction and spooked it. But that allowed me to capture the other two in-flight shots. After that I could have just gone home as the rest of the walk was nowhere near as exciting. Still, it was well worth the trip out….
